RESEARCH: Conventions of a double page spread

  • The image usually goes on the left-hand side with the copy on the right as the image is what most readers see first, however this is not always.
  • Stand first- introduction to summarize the article.
  • Drop capital- at the start of paragraphs, the first letter is often bigger.
  • Quotes- can be used to break up the paragraphs or used as a headliner.
  • Headline- the name of the article.
  • The By Line- indicates who wrote the article.
  • Direct address- the model will break the 4th wall.
  • Color scheme- runs throughout the magazine.
  • Page numbers and small version of masthead or logo found at the bottom or occasionally the top of the page. By the photo, the persons name who took it is often nearby around the edges.
Reflection- conventions of a double page spread:
In class we went over the conventions of a double page spread. This was a reminder of what I should include for my magazine.
