PRELIMINARY TASK: Reflection

Throughout the process of creating my preliminary task, I have learnt a great deal that will be useful in creating my final product. One of the main problems I had was that when I was taking my photos, I struggled to capture the gold writing on the one journal as the gold reflected due to the light intensity on the product. What I tried to do was turn down the light intensity, however then the image was not lit very well, so I made the decision to take this journal out. Upon reflection of this, I realized that the journal did not match the house style so this was a convenient decision. I also found that it was difficult to put together the light box at first, so I researched the brand and type of box to learn how to put it up. After I did this, the box was very effective in lightly the products and was easy to put up the following time. For my editing, I found multiple setting formats online that created different aesthetics. The one that I used was called white minimal, which suited my magazine’s visual aesthetic. To do this I put the: exposure +20, brilliance +70, highlights +30, shadows +15, black point -5, saturation +10, vibrancy -20 and sharpness +10.  This then created the images to have a natural filter effect. I made three different magazine adverts and decided on my final one as this clearly showed the product, the text was in a handwritten font and I thought that the signature at the bottom right was a friendly sign off from the Papier team. I created this signature using a fake signature generator, and I used my free hand to draw it For the first two mock ups I used more text than the last and the reason I decided to cut this back was I felt that it was not appealing to the audience , considering it was an advert not an article. Overall, I really enjoyed creating the advert and felt that this was a good way to put my foot in the door and head me in the right direction of creating my final product of a magazine cover, contents page and double page spread.
